The success of a rediscovered 19th century

The nineteenth-century proposal for todays' auction was once again widely appreciated, the sale closed with a turnover of over € 730,000, 81% of lots sold and 174% increase by value. The lively interest of the public was clear since the catalogue's publication, as we registered more than 110,000 online views, which translated into a significant increase in international bidders during the auction. The bidders were mainly from France, Germany, England, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

Focusing on the auction's core, the Bernasconi Collection reconfirms itself as a protagonist, with its second nucleus of works, among which particularly remarkable was Giovanni Fattori's "Soldati a cavallo" (€41,250) that offered an excellent assist to the numerous genres proposed in the catalogue. From the Orientalism of Alberto Pasini (€ 37,500), to the enchanting view of Venice by Josef Carl Berthold Püttner (attr.) (€ 30,000) which, together with Paolo Troubetzkoy and his "Ritratto di Tolstoj" (€ 27,500) brought out a significant interest in internationally known artists such as Luigi Russolo (€ 27,500).

Among the most relevant confirmations, the countless bets for artists that represents a 19th century that has to be rediscovered, as shown by the excellent performances for the female bust in marble by Angelo Montegani (record price for the artist € 17,500) or the total sold for the artworks of Natale Morzenti, as well as for more modern figurations such as the one of the brigand by Francesco Podesti (€ 16,250). Finally, the appreciation for the Divisionist genre remained constant with the work realized by Angelo Morbelli (€ 18,750) and for the chiaristi with the "Orti di Burano" depicted by Pio Semeghini (€ 10,000).
