19th and 20th century Paintings and Sculptures

A 19th century "to be rediscovered" was the aim and the proposal that animated the latest auctions of the Department.

 

Works previously unknown by the market as well as authentic rediscoveries are the guidelines of the catalogues of the 19th and 20th century Paintings and Sculptures Department.
The 19th and 20th century Paintings and Sculptures department stood out thanks to the sale of relevant properties, such as the historical nucleus of the Bernasconi Collection, whose works, of significant artistic value, enriched the most recent catalogues, leading the department to a record turnover of over € 2.5 million. Many offers came from abroad, showing how the department's proposal has strong international connotations.


 

Interesting and positive signs of recovery for nineteenth-twentieth century figurative art at the 19th December 2023 sale, rewarded not only by a large influx of visitors during the exhibition, but also by a turnover of over €460,000, resulted thank to a fierce competition among both Italian and international collectors: 95% of lots sold with a 180% estimate revaluation.

 
Absolute master and already protagonist the November 28th auction with the sale of two important historical drawing’s, the painter Angelo Morbelli leads this time as well with the beautiful realist painting "Ritorno alla stalla" (€35,280) followed by the Trieste-born painter Arturo Nathan, subject to recent critical success, with the rediscovered work “L'onda” (€30,240),
A tribute to the female world is the success achieved by the works depicting women’s portraits produced by Polish artist Wojciech Weiss (€25,200), Russian Filipp Andreevic Maljavin (€15,120) and Venetian Lino Selvatico (€9,450).
The fascination expressed by Venetian landscapes is confirmed both in the fishermen's dance by Ettore Tito (€15,120) and in the naturalist snapshot by Achille Befani Formis (€13,860). Worth mention are also a set of sculptures, among which the "Il soldato" (€12,600) by Oreste Labòa small impressionist glimpse, the en plein air study "Le chemin dans les bois” (€12,600) by Alfred Sisley and the "Venditore di fiammiferi" (€10,080) by Telemaco Signorini. These are some of the best awarded lots in a session full of genuine and original pieces aimed at capturing the taste and trends of the market.
