HOMANN, Johann Baptist (1663-1724) - Neuer Atlas - Atlas Novus. Nuremberg: presso l'autore, 1714. A splendid copy in contemporary colouring and binding of this large format atlas edited by Homann. Among the most important maps are that of the world and those of the 4 continents, but also sought after are the celestial ones and those dedicated to the planets and the moon as well as the tables representing scientific instruments. Folio (524 x 320mm). 100 engraved maps with contemporary handcolouring including the allegorical frontispiece, the double-page maps and celestial plates by Danckerts, de Ram, Schenk, Doppelmayr and others, title in red and black with engraved vignette, index, woodcut initials and headpieces, on guards (tiny wormholes to first guards, some leaves reinforced at the inner margin, index slightly shorter, occasional tears, occasional light browning). Contemporary blindstamped calf decorated with a globe on the covers, gilt spine (expertly rebacked preserving the original spine, some other restorations and minor rubbing).
