MAJOR, Thomas (1720-99) - The Ruins of Paestum. London: James Dixwell, 1768. A good copy of the first detailed account of the ruins, discovered in 1746 complete with the 25 engraved plates. Elephant folio (570 x 385mm). Large engraved headpieces and 25 engraved plates (some browning and some marginal waterstaining). Modern half calf in style, in part uncut (lightly rubbed).
