He was the first to realize the physiological importance of ferments and gazes, and invented the word 'gas'. He introduced the gravimetric idea in the analysis of urine" (Garrison). 2 parts in one volume, folio (351 x 215mm). Half-title, first title engraved by Nicolas Auroux, second title with woodcut vignette, woodcut initials and headpieces (half-title repaired, some browning and spotting, 3S5 of the index with tear to bottom corner with small loss). Slightly later boards backed in green morocco (light wear). The book appears to be complete despite the small variation in collation from SBN. Provenance: Dott.
