The auction of paintings and sculpture of the XIX and XX centuries to be held at the Il Ponte Auction House, in Milan, on 17 November, includes more than 200 lots of paintings and sculpture, all of the finest quality, by artists known to the collectors and enthusiasts of this artistic period.
Among the standouts is an oil on canvas by Giovanni Segantini, entitled  Crepuscolo in Brianza [Twilight in Brianza]: “ ….of the few original paintings discovered in the past decade, this is doubtless one of the most interesting”, noted in her critical synopsis the foremost authority on the painter, Professor Annie – Paule  Quinsac.
By Domenico  Induno, Un pensiero a Garibaldi [A note to Garibaldi], a 1863 painting in which the artist depicts the particulars of a Milanese artist’s atelier.
By Luigi Bisi, Veduta del fianco del Duomo di Milano dalla Corsia dei Servi [Lateral view of the Duomo of Milan seen from the Corsia dei Servi], an extraordinary close-up perspective of the side of the Milanese cathedral seen from the Corsia dei Servi, now Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
As usual, there are numerous works by Lombard artists of the mid-eighteen hundreds to the first years of the nineteen hundreds (Mosè Bianchi, Emilio Longoni, Giuseppe Barbaglia, Luigi Mantovani, Ugo Celada da Virgilio), immortalizing Milan and the Old Milan, as well as graphic works, among them three drawings by Angelo Inganni depicting the barricades erected by the populace during the Cinque Giornate revolt in Milan.
There are numerous portraits offered, including the Testa di donna di profilo [Woman’s head in profile] by Gaetano Previati,   infused by an extraordinary expressive force, a rare example of the painter’s early work, before his definitive adherence to the Divisionist school, and the Autoritratto [Self portrait] by  Filippo Carcano. The elegant and charming La Collana di Perle/ Il Vezzo di Perle [The Pearl Necklace] by Emilio Gola, from the Wanda Galtrucco collection, is also up for auction.
There is also a luminous and sunny Passeggiata sul Ponte Nuovo [A Walk on the Ponte Nuovo] by Angelo dall’Oca Bianca, a work realized at the turn of the last century, depicting a moment of springtime leisure against a view of the city of Verona and its river, the Adige.
31 lots of sculpture will be offered as well, with some of the most interesting featuring bronzes:   Allegoria del Teatro [Allegory of Theater] by Franco Bargiggia; Figura femminile [Female figure] by Amleto Cataldi and Bimba coi giochi [Little girl and her toys] by Paolo Troubetzkoy.
