EUSTACHI, Bartolomeo (?1500-1574) - Tabulae anatomicae. Rome: Tommaso Pagliarini, 1728. Second Rome edition. This series of 47 plates was prepared in 1552 to illustrate a book projected by Eustachius entitled De dissensionibus ac controversiis anatomicis, which was not realized before Eustachius's death. Only the first eight copperplate engravings were published during Eustachius's lifetime, in his Opuscula anatomica. Early in the 18th century the plates were found and brought to the attention of Giovanni Maria Lancisi, who published the full series of 47 plates along with his notes for the first time in 1714. Folio (381 x 250mm). Engraved dedication with portrait of Carinal Annibale Albani, title in red and black with engraved vignette, followed by the address to the reader, 47 engraved plates, woodcut initials (some soiling, small tear at margin of dedication and few other tears, preliminaries with different collation than SBN). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine (some wear). Provenance: Alignyy? (ownership inscription).
