PLATONE (c. 427-347 A.C.) - Opera. In greco. Basel: Johann Valderus, 1534. Second collected edition in Greek, first edition of the commentaries of Proclus. This handsomely printed edition is only preceded by that of the 1513 Aldine. 'That Plato should be the first of all the ancient philosophers to be translated and broadcast by the printing press was inevitable' (PMM). 2 parts by volume, folio (326 x 211mm). Text in Latin and Greek, woodcut historiated initials (2/1 with small repair at top inner corner, few light waterstains, mainly marginal). French 17th-century calf, gilt spine with elaborate decorations, arms and title, early antiphonary visible under endpapers (spine ends chipped, front joint weak and some rubbing). Provenance: various ownership inscriptions on title: D. Jacobo Menoetio Vasconcello - Ch.
