LE PRINCE, Jean-Baptiste (1734-1781) - Oeuvres. Paris: Basan e Poignat, F. Chereau, 1782. First edition, a great collection of etchings by Le Prince, regarded as the first artist to use aquatint. Many of the plates in this volume depict Russian scenes and subjects and this particular copy seems to have the highest number of plates. Elephant folio (574 x 410mm). Woodcut device on title, 163 engraved plates of which 88 etched and 75 aquatint, 8 have been inserted and are maybe from another copy (some occasional spotting mainly marginal). Contemporary boards (some wear, lacking most part of spine). The lot is accompanied by an export license.
